Estádio Nacional de Brasília

The Estádio Nacional de Brasília is a stadium for over 68,000 spectators at the western end of the capital's main axis. The white metal roof floats above the stands, held up by slender columns that provide shade all around.

The first arena at this site opened in the 1970s when the capital needed new sports facilities. Before the 2014 World Cup, it was completely rebuilt to meet international standards.

The name honors Mané Garrincha, a Brazilian footballer who won two World Cups with the national team. This connection makes the arena a place of national pride, especially when the Seleção plays.

The arena sits about 1.5 kilometers from the nearest metro station, with regular bus connections running to the site. The open design provides good views from all seats, though the sun can be strong.

The modern construction uses nearly 300 columns to hold up the roof, creating a striking geometry from below. The rebuild cost more than most other World Cup venues in Brazil.
