Katima Mulilo Bridge

The 900-meter bridge consists of 19 spans, forming a vital connection in the Trans-Caprivi Highway between Namibia and Zambia.

Construction began in 2002 after decades of delays due to political tensions, with the bridge opening on May 13, 2004 under Presidents Nujoma and Mwanawasa.

The bridge stands as a physical connection between communities on both sides of the Zambezi River, enabling regular interaction between Namibian and Zambian populations.

The structure carries vehicular and pedestrian traffic, linking Namibia's Walvis Bay port to Zambia's copper mining regions and broader central African markets.

Engineers constructed the entire bridge on Zambian territory to secure international grants, as Namibia's economic status would have required loan repayment.
