Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport, international airport serving southern Zambia
Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport is a commercial aerodrome in Zambia's Southern Province, handling both domestic and international flights. It has two runways and a passenger terminal with check-in counters, customs facilities, and a baggage claim area.
The airport was built in the 1950s and originally served only domestic routes. Between 2011 and 2017, it went through a major renovation that brought a new terminal and expanded runways, opening it to international operations.
The airport is named after Harry Mwanga Nkumbula, one of the leading figures of Zambia's independence movement. Local artwork is displayed inside the terminal, giving travelers a first or last look at the region's creative traditions.
Arriving early is a good idea, as the terminal can get busy during peak travel season. The airport is about 3 miles (5 km) from central Livingstone, and taxis are the most straightforward way to reach nearby hotels or attractions.
This airport is among the few international airports in the world located this close to a major natural wonder, with Victoria Falls just a short drive away. On clear days, the spray rising from the falls can sometimes be seen from the road leading out of the airport.
