Kigongo–Busisi Bridge, Road bridge in Mwanza Region, Tanzania
The Kigongo-Busisi Bridge is a road bridge that spans roughly 3 kilometers across the Gulf of Mwanza, connecting Mwanza and Geita regions in northern Tanzania. It carries two lanes of traffic and was designed to safely guide vehicles across the water.
The project began in 2019 when the president laid the foundation stone for this infrastructure link. It was built to directly connect two important regions and cut travel time dramatically.
The bridge has changed how people move between communities along Lake Victoria, where crossing once relied entirely on ferries. Today it serves as an everyday route for residents heading to markets, schools, and family living on the other side.
Driving across takes just a few minutes by car, whereas the old ferry crossing took over half an hour. Drive normally and watch for other traffic, as this is a main highway serving the region.
The structure ranks among Africa's longest bridges and connects two shoreline areas that were previously difficult to reach. The project shows how modern infrastructure can bring entire regions closer together.
