Treetops Hotel, Wildlife observation hotel in Aberdare National Park, Kenya
Treetops Hotel is a lodge built on stilts overlooking a natural watering hole in Aberdare National Park. The elevated structure allows visitors to watch elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife drinking and moving below without disturbing them.
The lodge was built along an ancient elephant migration corridor between the Aberdare Mountains and Mount Kenya. In 1952, Princess Elizabeth stayed there and learned of King George VI's death during her visit, an event that led to her becoming queen.
The hotel maintains traditional safari practices with professional guides who share their knowledge about local wildlife behavior and regional conservation efforts.
The property has rooms equipped with alert systems that notify guests when animals arrive at the watering hole. Viewing opportunities happen throughout the day and night, with peak activity occurring during early morning and evening hours.
Living trees grow directly through the structure, with trunks piercing through the roof and walls of the building. This integration creates an unusual blend where the forest becomes part of the interior space.
