North Musi Rawas, Administrative regency in South Sumatra, Indonesia.
North Musi Rawas is an administrative regency in southeastern Sumatra bordered by Jambi Province, Musi Banyuasin Regency, Musi Rawas Regency, and Bengkulu Province. The region is divided into seven districts containing 82 administrative villages, with Rupit serving as the administrative center.
The Indonesian government established North Musi Rawas on June 10, 2013, by separating seven northern districts from the original Musi Rawas Regency. This administrative split resulted from local demands for greater independence in governance.
The population consists of several ethnic groups, with Malays forming the majority and living alongside Javanese, Sundanese, Minangkabau, and Chinese communities. These groups shape daily life in the region's villages and markets.
Visitors can reach Rupit as the main hub, from which routes branch out to the various villages and districts. Travel is easiest during the dry season when roads and waterways are most accessible.
Two major rivers, the Musi and Rawas, flow through the region and define both its name and economic importance. These waterways have long shaped transportation and fishing activities for local communities.
