Mount Halimun Salak National Park

The protected area spans 40,000 hectares across two mountains connected by an 11-kilometer forest corridor, containing diverse ecosystems from lowland rainforests to mountain peaks.

The region gained protected status in 1924 as a forest reserve before its designation as Mount Halimun National Park in 1992, later expanding to include Mount Salak.

The Kesepuhan traditional community of 5,300 people maintains sustainable agricultural practices within the southern section of the national park, centered around their main village of Ciptagelar.

The park entrance requires a two-hour drive from Sukabumi to the administration post, followed by another two-hour journey spanning 30 kilometers to reach the Cikaniki gate.

The national park serves as a critical habitat for endangered species, including the West Javan gibbon population, which increased from 54 individuals in 2008 to 61 in 2013.
