ソコトゥンガル・モスク

Soko Tunggal Mosque is an Islamic prayer building in the Tamansari district, supported by a single central column that runs from floor to ceiling. The entire roof rests on this one pillar, which leaves the interior space completely open and unobstructed.

Construction started in 1967 under Mohammad R. Ngabehi Mintobudoyo, the final architect of the Yogyakarta Palace. This respected architect brought his deep knowledge of traditional Javanese building methods to the project.

The mosque blends Javanese building traditions with Islamic design, and its carved decorations show symbols tied to earth and strength. Visitors can observe this mixture of both cultures directly in the details throughout the space.
