Kampoeng Rawa, Ecological tourism complex at Lake Rawa Pening, Ambarawa, Indonesia.
Kampoeng Rawa is an ecological tourism complex surrounding Lake Rawa Pening in Ambarawa, featuring green spaces and views of Mount Merbabu and Mount Telomoyo. The grounds include floating restaurants, boat stations, and recreational facilities run by local groups.
The site was founded in 2004 by local farmers and fishermen who received financial support from the Artha Prima Credit Union. This founding marked the beginning of efforts to promote environmental awareness and sustainable livelihoods within the community.
The central open stage hosts regular Indonesian performances and serves as a gathering place for the community, where visitors can experience local traditions firsthand. These events reflect the daily life and values of people who live around the lake.
Visits work best during daytime hours when boats operate and restaurants are open. The site has good walking paths and infrastructure suitable for day visitors of all abilities.
Twelve farming and fishing groups work together to operate the site while preserving the lake's natural state. This model of shared management is uncommon in the region and shows how local economics and environmental protection can be intertwined.
