Kertosono, Administrative district in Nganjuk, Indonesia
Kertosono is an administrative district in Nganjuk composed of fourteen villages including Drenges, Juwono, and Bangsri spread across flat terrain. A railway line passes through the area, connecting it to major urban centers for both passenger travel and freight movement.
This district began as an independent kadipaten during the Mataram Sultanate period before merging with neighboring regions. The consolidation resulted in the formation of Berbek Regency under Dutch colonial authority.
The villages within this district have strong community ties that show in local celebrations where neighbors gather and share traditional food. Residents keep older customs alive through crafts and storytelling passed down through generations.
The area is easy to reach by train since a major railway line connects the district to larger cities. Visitors should be prepared for rural conditions and use local transport options to move between the different villages.
The name comes from a historical figure, Mbah Kerto, who fought against Dutch colonial forces during the Treteg Tosono battle. This local legend remains alive in residents' memory and shapes the sense of identity in the district.
