Mount Butak, Stratovolcano in Malang, Indonesia

Mount Butak rises 2,868 meters above sea level at the border between Malang and Blitar regions in East Java, Indonesia.

No recorded volcanic eruptions have occurred at Mount Butak throughout documented geological history, despite its classification as a stratovolcano.

The name Butak refers to the dried savanna landscape that surrounds the mountain peak during extended dry seasons in East Java.

Two official hiking routes lead to the summit: the Panderman trail from Toyomerto village and the Sirah Kencong path with moderate difficulty levels.

The Cemoro Kandang grassland near the summit provides views of Mount Semeru, Mount Arjuno, Mount Liman, and Mount Lawu on clear days.
