Brahmavihara-Arama

Brahmavihara-Arama is a Buddhist monastery set on sloping terrain with multiple levels containing meditation rooms, libraries, and gardens. Pathways connect different sections of the grounds, allowing visitors to explore the entire complex.

The monastery opened in 1970 and became the main Buddhist center on Hindu-majority Bali. Its establishment marked a significant moment in the religious presence on the island.

The site blends Buddhist traditions with Balinese artistic elements throughout its grounds. You will notice statues, sculptures, and decorations that show how different Buddhist cultures have contributed to the place.

The grounds are open daily with no entry fee, but terrain with slopes means comfortable shoes are recommended. Plan to spend time walking between different areas and exploring at a leisurely pace.

At the highest point stands a small-scale replica of Borobudur, the ancient Buddhist temple from Java. This miniature version connects the monastery to one of Buddhism's most important architectural works.
