Twin Falls

Twin Falls is a waterfall in Kakadu National Park that drops over a sandstone ridge in a series of cascades. The falls create multiple tiers of water as they descend through the Alligator Rivers region.

The waterfall gained official recognition in 1980 when added to the Register of the National Estate. This protected the site as a place of natural and cultural value to Australia.

The Indigenous people named the falls Gungkurdul, maintaining deep spiritual connections through creation stories involving ancestors Almudj and Yamidj.

Getting to this waterfall requires a high-clearance vehicle to handle the rough track and creek crossings. It helps to go early in the day and come prepared for remote conditions.

A boat carries visitors across the gorge to reach the base of the falls safely. This transport exists because swimming is not permitted in these waters due to crocodile presence.
