Twin Falls descends 158 meters over multiple tiers along the sandstone escarpment, forming a series of cascades within the Alligator Rivers region.
The waterfall area gained recognition in 1980 when it was listed in the Register of the National Estate as a significant natural landmark.
The Indigenous people named the falls Gungkurdul, maintaining deep spiritual connections through creation stories involving ancestors Almudj and Yamidj.
Access requires a high-clearance four-wheel drive vehicle to navigate the 60-kilometer track from Kakadu Highway, including water crossings at Jim Jim Creek.
A boat shuttle service transports visitors across the gorge to reach the falls base, as swimming remains prohibited due to crocodile presence.
