Mount Bundey Training Area, Military training area in Northern Territory, Australia
Mount Bundey Training Area is a large military facility spread across diverse terrain between Mary River and Kakadu National Park in northern Australia. The grounds contain zones for explosive training, accommodation for groups, control buildings, and an urban combat training complex built in 2005.
The site began as a cattle station before the Defence Department took it over in 1988 and converted it into a military facility. This transformation made it a center for combat training and force preparation exercises.
The training area brings together military personnel from Australia, the United States, and Singapore for joint exercises and shared operations. These international collaborations shape how the facility functions and connects different armed forces.
The facility sits roughly 75 kilometers southeast of Humpty Doo and offers basic amenities including camping space for around 200 people. Keep in mind this is an active military site with restricted access for the general public.
The site appears on the Commonwealth Heritage List because of its diverse wildlife and natural habitats that exist within it. Waterways, floodplains, and rainforest sections form an important ecosystem that persists alongside military operations.
