Eastern Seram Regency, Administrative regency in Maluku, Indonesia
Eastern Seram Regency is an administrative area in Maluku that spans across the main island of Seram and the Gorom and Watubela island groups to the southeast. The regency consists of fifteen districts governed from the administrative center of Bula.
The regency was created in 1999 during an administrative restructuring of Maluku province. This reform aimed to improve local governance and better manage resources across the scattered island territories.
The population of Eastern Seram includes Alfur, Ambonese, Bugis, and Javanese communities, who maintain their languages, traditions, and religious practices of Islam and Christianity.
Travel between the island territories relies on ferry services, with connections coordinated from Bula. Visitors should expect variable travel times and schedules that can change with seasonal sea conditions.
The regency comprises a main island surrounded by several distant island groups separated by open water. This scattered geography creates distinct island enclaves, each with its own local characteristics and conditions.
