Paniai Regency

Paniai Regency extends across 6,525 square kilometers of Central Papua Province, with its administrative center located in the town of Enarotali.

The Dutch pilot Frits Julius Wissel discovered three lakes in this region during 1938, leading to the colonial-era name Wisselmeren for the area.

The regional motto Awetako Enaa Agapida reflects local aspirations through its meaning Tomorrow Better than Today in the indigenous language.

The regency contains twenty-four districts, managing 216 rural kampung and 5 urban kelurahan, with a population exceeding 227,000 residents as of 2022.

The region maintains fifteen airports across its territory, with eleven under private ownership and the main terminal situated in Enarotali.
