King Street Bridge, Road bridge in Melbourne, Australia
The King Street Bridge extends over the Yarra River with eight traffic lanes, connecting King Street in the north to Kings Way in the south.
The bridge opened in April 1961 and underwent significant reconstruction after a span collapsed in July 1962 due to material failures during cold weather.
The 1962 bridge collapse entered Melbourne folklore through television shows, including performances by local entertainers Zig and Zag.
The structure integrates with Crown Casino's basement parking system and accommodates both vehicular traffic and tram route connections through the city center.
The bridge features a welded deck-girder suspended-span construction with spans reaching 160 feet, incorporating post-tensioned girders after its reconstruction.
