Australia 108, Modern residential skyscraper in Southbank, Melbourne, Australia
Australia 108 is a residential tower in Southbank that rises across 100 floors and reaches 316.7 meters (1,039 feet) in height. The design follows contemporary forms, with a base of concrete and glass that tapers toward a narrower top.
Construction began in October 2015 and finished in September 2020, after several changes were made to the original design. The project cost around 900 million AUD and produced the tallest residential structure in Australia.
The tower's name refers to the Summer Olympics that Melbourne hosted in 1956, and features a gold ribbon along its facade. This ribbon marks the floors where a shared lounge sits, available for those who live in the building.
The building is private residential property and offers no public access to the apartments or shared areas higher up. You can view and photograph the exterior easily from surrounding streets and parks in Southbank.
During construction, the tower's height was adjusted to meet air travel regulations without giving up its position as the tallest residential building in the country. Part of the upper facade displays a stylized shape that recalls the Commonwealth star motif.
