Melbourne Terrace is a residential complex on Franklin Street comprising four separate buildings named Equus, Mondo, Roma, and Fortuna. The development contains 60 apartments with high ceilings and copper-clad surfaces, with each building section having its own lift and staircase access.
Built in 1994, the complex marked a turning point in Melbourne's city center redevelopment. At that time, the project helped introduce medium-density apartment living to the urban landscape and shaped how the city would grow.
Each building entrance features a distinct sculpture by Australian artist Peter Corlett, bringing contemporary art into the everyday living spaces. These works shape the character of the complex and encourage residents and visitors to engage with artistic expression.
The complex features a two-level parking facility accessible from Anthony Street, making it convenient to access. Visitors should note that each building section has separate access points, which helps with navigation through the site.
The balconies feature oxidized copper cladding created using molds designed by RMIT students, giving the building a weathered appearance. The characteristic serrated roof line adds another layer of visual interest and makes the complex easily recognizable from a distance.
