Pratten Park, reserve in Ashfield LGA, New South Wales, Australia
Pratten Park is a sports venue and public park in Ashfield with a simple wooden and brick grandstand positioned in one corner. The grounds consist mainly of grass with gentle surrounding hills that serve as viewing areas and are now used by the Western Suburbs Cricket Club and other local sports organizations.
The grounds opened in 1912 and served as home to the Western Suburbs Magpies rugby team for more than fifty years. The last major rugby match took place in 1985, after which the space gradually shifted focus toward cricket and community events.
The park is named after Herbert Pratten, a former mayor of Ashfield, reflecting the community's ties to local leaders. Today it serves as a gathering place where families and sports fans collect on the grassy slopes to watch matches and share outdoor moments together.
The grounds lack lighting, video screens, or covered areas, so visitors should prepare for weather conditions if staying late. Access is via Arthur Street in Ashfield and is easily reached on foot or by car from nearby public transportation options.
The grandstand underwent renovation and reopened in 2007 after falling into disrepair over the years. This restoration allowed the space to continue supporting local matches and community events while maintaining its role as a neighborhood gathering point.
