Diamantina Health Care Museum

The Diamantina Health Care Museum occupies a historic timber building with corrugated iron roofing and French doors. It sits within the Princess Alexandra Hospital grounds and displays how medical practice and patient care have evolved across many decades.

The original Diamantina Hospital for Chronic Diseases was founded in 1901, though it grew from an orphanage that operated since 1864. This surviving building from that complex now houses the museum, which opened to document Queensland's medical past.

The building holds medical equipment and photographs that show how healthcare changed in Queensland over time. Through these objects, you can see what daily patient care looked like and what tools doctors actually used.

The museum sits within a large hospital campus and can be visited alongside other facilities in the area. Allow enough time to view the exhibits carefully and take part in guided tours if they are offered during your visit.

This is the only surviving building from the original Diamantina complex and still shows the architectural details from the early 1900s. Its survival makes it a rare window into how hospital infrastructure once looked in Brisbane.
