Teneriffe Village, Heritage warehouse complex in Teneriffe, Australia
Teneriffe Village is a five-story brick warehouse complex in Teneriffe, Queensland, built with concrete sunshades, timber-framed windows, and a sawtooth roof design. This roof brings natural light into the interior spaces where various retail shops now operate throughout the building.
The complex was built between 1955 and 1957 for Dalgety & Co. Ltd, replacing older facilities used for wool storage and auctions. It served as a key center for Queensland's agricultural trading industry and is now registered on the Queensland Heritage Register.
The space today mixes its past as a wool trading hub with its present role as a retail destination for shoppers and traders. Visitors and merchants move through the corridors, illustrating how an industrial site has become an active commercial gathering place.
The site is located on Macquarie Street and houses several retail businesses, with the well-known Paddy's Market serving as a major tenant. The building's skylights and windows keep the interior spaces bright and airy throughout the day.
The sawtooth roof design was created to bring maximum natural light into the warehouse spaces, which was essential for inspecting and grading wool. This technical feature remains visible today and shows how thoughtful industrial design solved practical problems in the mid-twentieth century.
