Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park

The Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park spans 9,580 square kilometers of glaciers, rivers, and mountains in northwestern British Columbia, along the borders of Alaska and Yukon.

The park was established in 1993 following extensive campaigns by conservation groups to protect the region from mining exploration and maintain its natural environment.

The Tlingit and Southern Tutchone peoples established fishing villages along the rivers, using ancient trade routes that crossed through the eastern section of the park.

Visitors access the park through Whitehorse, with several companies offering multi-day rafting expeditions on the Tatshenshini and Alsek rivers from spring through fall.

The park contains one of the largest non-polar ice fields globally and provides essential corridors connecting coastal and interior grizzly bear populations.
