Arcos del Milenio, Steel sculpture in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Arcos del Milenio is a steel sculpture in Guadalajara consisting of four yellow-painted arches that increase in size as they rise. The structure occupies a substantial area and can be seen from many points throughout the city.
The project was approved in 1999 and the first arches were built between 2000 and 2001. It was designed to mark the transition into a new century at a significant turning point in time.
The arches were created to celebrate the start of a new era and have become a defining landmark for Guadalajara's residents. They symbolize the city's forward momentum and are often referenced in local identity and urban pride.
The complex sits at the intersection of two major avenues where it is easy to locate and accessible from several directions. The best time to visit is early morning or at sunset when the light enhances the visual impact of the yellow arches.
The original design called for six arches but financial constraints meant only four were ultimately completed. A miniature replica of the full intended design can be seen in the nearby town of Tapalpa.
