Port Disney, Cancelled amusement ride in Long Beach, California, US.
Port Disney was a proposed theme park in Long Beach, California, that was never built. The design included several marine-themed areas such as Oceana with a large aquarium, Mysterious Island, and Heroes' Harbor.
Walt Disney Company announced the project in July 1990 and later revealed its cancellation in December 1991. The plans initially involved an investment of approximately 2.8 billion dollars and included a resort with five hotels and a marina.
The park intended to combine entertainment with marine research facilities where visitors could interact with scientists and learn about ocean studies.
The site was meant to cover an area of roughly 350 acres (142 hectares) and be connected by a monorail system. Visitors would have been able to move between different sections without leaving the property.
The Oceana section was supposed to house a two-story aquarium with transparent walls that visitors could swim through. The architecture was designed as a reflection of the ocean, with flowing shapes and water features.
