San Fernando Gardens

San Fernando Gardens is a residential development in Pacoima in the northern part of Los Angeles made up of several apartment buildings arranged across the property. The complex features older multifamily structures laid out in a grid pattern with green spaces between the buildings.

The development was founded in 1955 as one of the first housing projects in Los Angeles that brought together residents of different races. This opening marked an important change in how the city approached housing policy.

Families from many different backgrounds live here together, shaping daily life in the neighborhood. You will see and hear different languages and traditions woven into how residents use shared spaces.

The complex sits in an established residential area with schools and daily shopping options nearby. Since the area has hills, visitors should expect slopes and varied walking paths throughout.

This project holds the northernmost position in Los Angeles' public housing system and sits apart geographically from other city complexes. This location gives it a somewhat separate identity from the rest of the system.
