North Hollywood Amelia Earhart Regional Library, Public library building in North Hollywood, United States.
The North Hollywood Amelia Earhart Regional Library is a public library built in Mediterranean Revival style, featuring red brick walls, Spanish tile roofing, and decorative wrought iron gates at 5211 Tujunga Avenue. The roughly 1,400 square meter (15,150 square foot) facility houses reading materials, computer access, tutoring services, and educational programs for the North Hollywood community.
The building was constructed in 1929 as North Hollywood was rapidly developing, replacing a modest collection of two bookcases housed in a local post office. The move to this permanent location marked a major expansion of public library services for the growing neighborhood.
The library is named after aviator Amelia Earhart, who lived nearby and was a regular visitor to this branch. The naming reflects the community's connection to early aviation history and a pioneering figure from the neighborhood.
The building is easily accessible and offers both interior and exterior areas to explore its architectural features. It functions as a standard community library with reading and learning opportunities for visitors of all ages.
The building features seven multi-pane recessed windows in the clerestory that subtly illuminate the interior. Two large coats of arms adorn the exterior sides, adding visual distinction to the structure.
