Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Historic hotel on Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, United States
The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is a twelve-story building in Spanish Colonial Revival style across from TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The property features 300 rooms and suites with interior courtyards, a pool terrace, and public spaces adorned with tilework and arcades.
The building opened in 1927 and quickly became a gathering place for the film industry as studios and cinemas were located nearby. Over the following decades, renovations pulled the building in different directions until restorations in the 2000s brought back original details.
The name refers to President Theodore Roosevelt and reflects Hollywood's ambition to establish itself as a cultural center. Guests move through a lobby with hand-painted wooden ceilings and wrought-iron details that recall Spanish palaces.
The building sits on Hollywood Boulevard between the Hollywood/Highland and Hollywood/Vine stops of the Metro Red Line. The ground-floor reception is staffed around the clock, and personnel provide information about nearby attractions and events.
A hand-painted mural by David Hockney from the 1980s adorns a wall beside the swimming pool and shows palm trees in bold colors. The work was created during a renovation phase and is now part of the public areas that guests discover while walking through the property.
