The Mansion, Recording studio in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, California
This four-bedroom house at 2451 Laurel Canyon Boulevard contains several recording rooms spread across different areas of the building. Beyond technical facilities, it offers sleeping quarters and common spaces where musicians can stay during production.
Construction took place in 1918 when it was built as a residential home. Rick Rubin converted it into a professional facility after successful recordings in the late 1980s.
The name comes from the private, home-like setting that preserves its residential character while serving as a workplace. Bands live and work under one roof, creating a flow between everyday life and creative sessions.
Access is limited to artists recording on site, as this is a private working and living space. Outside visitors cannot enter the grounds.
Cameras have documented the working process several times for films, including footage of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park. These productions show how musicians live in the house over extended periods while shaping their records.
