Great American Tower, Office building in Uptown Phoenix, United States

3200 Central, formally known as Great American Tower, is a 24-story, 320-foot (98 m) office high-rise on Central Avenue in Uptown Phoenix. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in the Postmodern style, it is an eight-sided building with a 45-degree angle cut into each of its four corners. Exterior columns and spandrels give the tower an angular, repetitive appearance.

3200 Central, now known as Great American Tower, was built in 1985 in the Uptown area of Phoenix, not downtown. Developer Oxford Properties, which also built the neighbouring 3300 North Central Avenue, commissioned Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as architect and Westbrook Construction as contractor. On completion it was the sixth-tallest building in Phoenix; it now ranks 21st.

The building shows the Post Modern style of the 1980s through its angular forms and systematic cuts at the corners. When you stand in front of it, this architectural approach stands out immediately and looks quite different from older buildings nearby.

The building sits on Central Avenue and is easy to spot because of its distinctive eight-sided shape with cut-off corners. Visitors should know that this is a private office building, so access to the interior may be limited depending on business hours.

The top floor plate is smaller than the rest of the tower and carries a balcony that rings the outer perimeter, interrupted only at the four 45-degree corners. The balcony is part of the building's design, not a public viewing area, so visitors see it from the street rather than stand on it.
