Viad Tower

The Viad Tower is an office building in Midtown Phoenix featuring 24 floors with a distinctive rectangular form clad in glass and concrete. The structure rises prominently in the skyline and houses significant commercial space with an organized layout.

The building was completed in 1991 by architectural firm HKS Inc and marked the last major skyscraper constructed in Midtown Phoenix. Its completion coincided with economic shifts that halted further large-scale development in the area.

The building entrance opens onto a public park decorated with statues and fountains that serves as a gathering spot for both office workers and local visitors.

The tower is located on Central Avenue north of McDowell Road and is easily identifiable when visiting the Phoenix Art Museum nearby. The adjacent public park provides a good landmark and a place to rest while exploring the area.

The original development plan included a companion tower rotated 90 degrees that was abandoned during economic downturns of the late 1980s. This unrealized twin structure demonstrates how the site might have expanded into a much larger complex.
