The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown is a modern hotel and skyscraper with 31 floors and roughly 1000 rooms located in Phoenix's downtown core. The structure features recreational amenities including an outdoor pool positioned on the upper levels.
The Phoenix City Council approved the $350 million hotel in July 2003, and ground was broken in late March 2006. Arquitectonica and RSP Architects designed the 31-floor tower, which topped out in October 2007 and welcomed guests on September 30, 2008. The city sold it to Marriott International for $255 million in June 2018; after renovations, it reopened on April 25, 2021.
The exterior reflects the desert landscape through warm brown, orange, and yellow tones, while a curved roofline echoes the silhouette of Camelback Mountain. The facade speaks to the natural surroundings that shaped the building's character.
The hotel stands on 3rd Street north of Van Buren Street, next to the Arizona Center complex and the Phoenix Convention Center, whose North building opened in early 2008. Its 80,000 square feet of meeting space take in a 29,000-square-foot ballroom, a 15,000-square-foot junior ballroom, 16 meeting rooms, two boardrooms and an outdoor events terrace. A 6,500-square-foot fitness center and a 2,000-square-foot outdoor pool and sundeck serve guests between sessions.
The tower's 31 floors overtook the 24-floor Hyatt Regency Phoenix as Arizona's tallest hotel. Its curved roofline was designed to echo the slope of Camelback Mountain, and the brown, orange and yellow exterior was chosen to match the desert sky at sunset.
