St. Mary's Basilica, Spanish Colonial Revival church in Downtown Phoenix, United States.
St. Mary's Basilica is a church featuring Spanish Colonial Revival architecture located in downtown Phoenix. The building displays four domes with onion-shaped tops and bell towers on the exterior, with Romanesque details and expansive stained glass windows filling the interior.
The first church on this site was built in 1881 using adobe brick but was demolished to make way for a new structure. The current building was constructed between 1902 and 1914 and opened to the public in 1915.
This basilica serves as a gathering place where Catholics come together to observe their faith and traditions. Visitors can experience the religious community that keeps this space active through regular worship and celebrations throughout the year.
The basilica is situated in downtown Phoenix and is easily accessible from nearby streets. Keep in mind this is an active house of worship, so visiting during services requires respectful behavior and modest clothing.
This church holds the designation of a minor basilica, a title given to only 32 churches across the entire United States. No other place of worship in Arizona carries this particular ecclesiastical rank.
