Capilla Ecuménica La Paz, Ecumenical chapel on El Guitarrón hill, Acapulco, Mexico.
Capilla Ecuménica La Paz is a white chapel located on El Guitarrón hill, topped with a 42-meter cross that rises above Acapulco bay. The structure sits at approximately 402 meters above sea level and can be seen from many points across the city.
The chapel was built in 1971 by Carlos Trouyet following a vision by his wife Milly, inspired by their grief after losing their sons in an aircraft accident. The structure emerged as a place of remembrance and hope.
The chapel welcomes visitors and worshippers from any faith background, serving as a shared spiritual space where people of different religions gather for prayer and ceremonies. Inside, the simple design reflects this openness and inclusive purpose.
Visitors should plan their visits to finish before 6:00 PM, as there is no artificial lighting inside the chapel. This is especially important if you want to attend a ceremony or spend time in quiet reflection.
At the base of the cross stands a bronze sculpture titled 'Hands of Brotherhood' by Claudio Favier, showing two hands clasped in prayer. This piece symbolizes unity and dialogue between different faiths at this location.
