Fuente de la Diana cazadora, Monumental fountain in Acapulco, Mexico

The Fuente de la Diana Cazadora, officially Flechadora de las Estrellas del Norte, is a monumental urban fountain on Costera Miguel Alemán in Acapulco. Its five-meter sculpture of the Roman huntress Diana, modeled on Helvia Martínez Verdayes, stands atop a ten-meter iron support shaped like a wave. The fountain marks the junction of the Costera entrance, the roads to the Zona Tradicional and Zona Dorada, and the federal maritime zone, near Playa La Condesa.

The fountain's origin lies in a 1942 beautification programme of Mexican president Miguel Alemán, who had fountains placed in the capital's main roundabouts; architect Vicente Mendiola and sculptor Juan Olaguíbel were commissioned for the Paseo de la Reforma version. The Acapulco monument was remodelled by the Secretaría de Turismo and finished on 24 March 2015, ahead of the Tianguis Turístico. For the fair's 2017 return, the 1.90-metre sculpture was swapped for a 5-metre one because the smaller figure could not be made out on the new base.

The figure is officially called Flechadora de las Estrellas del Norte: instead of hunting beasts in the forest, this Roman Diana shoots the stars of the northern sky, which gave the sculpture its name. The 16-year-old Helvia Martínez Verdayes, a secretary at Petróleos Mexicanos, posed nude for sculptor Juan Olaguíbel without payment. The roundabout itself is also known as La Diana Cazadora.

The fountain stands on Costera Miguel Alemán where the road into the Costera, the route to the Zona Tradicional, the route to the Zona Dorada and the boundary of the Zona Federal Marítima meet. Playa La Condesa and several shopping centres and hotels are close by, so it can be seen on foot during a walk along the avenue.

The original 1.90-metre sculpture was moved to Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo; the 5-metre figure now on the wave-shaped steel base was installed for the 2017 return of the Tianguis Turístico to Acapulco. The model was Helvia Martínez Verdayes, a 16-year-old Pemex secretary who posed unpaid and in secret.
