San Cristóbal Verapaz

San Cristóbal Verapaz extends across 423 square kilometers of land at an elevation of 1,393 meters, containing both urban neighborhoods and rural settlements.

The municipality was established on August 14, 1565, and later experienced significant changes during the Guatemala Civil War period of the 1980s.

The population of 83,119 residents includes 61,135 Maya people who maintain their traditions through numerous religious celebrations and town fairs throughout the year.

Located 29 kilometers from Cobán and 210 kilometers from Guatemala City, the municipality houses the Cobán shoe factory producing industrial rubber boots.

The territory encompasses eighty-nine rural communities and five urban neighborhoods, with eighteen key settlements providing essential services to inhabitants.
