Lagunas de Montebello National Park

The national park contains 59 lakes of different colors, including emerald, turquoise, and purple, spread across 6,411 hectares of pine forest terrain.

Established in December 1959 as the first national park in Chiapas, the area received UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status fifty years later in 2009.

The Maya archaeological site of Chinkultic within the park features 200 structures, including pyramids and a ball court from the third century.

Visitors can access 15 lakes for swimming and kayaking, with Lago Tziscao being the largest and most developed for recreational activities.

The lakes display different colors due to mineral content variations in their waters, creating a natural palette across the landscape.
