Los Bancos Canton

Los Bancos Canton is an administrative district in Pichincha Province located roughly 94 kilometers from Quito, featuring diverse terrain and varying elevations across its expanse. The area encompasses different landscapes and ecosystems shaped by its position between the Andes and western lowland regions.

The canton's name comes from large tree trunks that once served as resting benches at a road intersection marking the connection between Quito and the coastal region of Esmeraldas. This naming reflects the historical importance of this route for trade and travel.

The canton holds annual celebrations on July 17th featuring traditional bull running events, artistic performances, and displays of regional cuisine. These gatherings showcase local customs and the community's connection to its heritage.

The area experiences a tropical to subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 15 to 32 degrees Celsius (59 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit) year-round, making it suitable for various activities. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions and bring clothing suited to different elevations.
