Buenaventura

Buenaventura is a seaport municipality in Valle del Cauca on Colombia's Pacific coast. Its terminal facilities stretch along the bay and serve as the country's main cargo gateway on the Pacific side.

Juan Ladrillero founded the settlement in 1540 as a Spanish base for Pacific maritime routes. Over time, it grew into the largest port on Colombia's western shore.

The city celebrates its African heritage through marimba rhythms and traditional dances performed in local neighborhoods. Markets offer dishes prepared with fish and coconut milk, reflecting recipes passed down over generations.

Gerardo Tobar López Airport offers direct flights to Bogotá, while paved highways connect to Cali and other cities. Rain gear is necessary year-round, as the weather remains wet most days.

This coastal town ranks among the wettest inhabited places on Earth, with constant humidity filling the air. Heavy downpours shape daily life and support thick greenery that grows right up to buildings.
