Turrialba, Active stratovolcano in Cartago Province, Costa Rica.
Turrialba rises 3,340 meters above sea level with three distinct craters, the largest measuring 50 meters in diameter at its summit.
The volcano remained dormant for 150 years until 1996, when it began showing signs of activity through fumaroles and small seismic movements.
Local farmers in the surrounding areas maintain agricultural traditions despite periodic ashfalls, adapting their cultivation methods to volcanic soil conditions.
Access to Turrialba Volcano National Park requires a 4-wheel drive vehicle due to unpaved roads leading to the entrance gates.
The summit offers simultaneous views of both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea during clear weather conditions.
