Bronze fountain featuring goddess Cybele riding a chariot pulled by two lions stands at an intersection of four streets in Colonia Roma.
Inaugurated in 1980 by President José López Portillo and Madrid Mayor Enrique Tierno Galván as an exact replica of Madrid's original Cibeles Fountain.
The fountain serves as a central meeting point for Mexico City residents who gather there during celebrations, festivals, and social demonstrations.
Located two blocks from Insurgentes Metro station, the fountain connects Oaxaca, Durango, Medellín, and El Oro streets in the Cuauhtémoc district.
The bronze sculpture weighs 12 tons and measures 12.5 meters long, featuring mythological figures Hippomenes and Atalanta represented as the lions.
