Tlaquilpa is an administrative county in Veracruz located in mountains at about 2,250 meters (7,380 feet) elevation. The territory spans roughly 58 square kilometers and contains 68 different settlements linked by rural roads.
The municipality was established as an independent administrative unit in 1831, having been previously governed from Zongolica. It was formerly known as Santa Maria Magdalena before being renamed Tlaquilpa.
Farming shapes daily life here, with corn, beans, and rice growing throughout the valleys and hillsides. Local artisans continue working with traditional methods passed down through generations.
