Cascada de Texolo, Waterfall in Xico, Veracruz, Mexico
Cascada de Texolo is a waterfall near Xico in Veracruz state that plunges through dense woodlands surrounded by tropical plants and epiphytes. The water creates a strong cascade as it descends into the pool below.
The Mexican government designated this site as a protected Ramsar Wetland in February 2006 to preserve its ecological importance and natural habitats. This protection helps maintain the biodiversity found in the surrounding forest.
The waterfall gained international attention after appearing in the 1984 film Romancing the Stone, which was filmed here though set in a different country. This cinematic connection has drawn many visitors who want to see the locations from the movie.
Most visitors travel by bus from Xalapa to Xico and then take a taxi to the parking area near the entrance. From there, footpaths and a suspended bridge lead to multiple viewpoints and down to the base of the falls.
A suspended bridge crosses the gorge and provides access to footpaths leading to different viewing platforms throughout the site. The bridge itself becomes part of the experience, adding an element of adventure to exploring the area.
