Parque Nacional Cumbres de Monterrey, National park in Nuevo León, Mexico
The protected area spans 177,395 hectares across eight municipalities, featuring mountain ranges, canyons, and waterfalls within the Sierra Madre Oriental.
President Lázaro Cárdenas established the national park in 1939 with 246,500 hectares, making it Mexico's largest park at that time.
Before Spanish colonization, various Chichimeca groups inhabited the region and formed alliances to maintain their independence from Spanish control.
The Chipinque sector, located 19 kilometers from downtown Monterrey, provides visitors with detailed maps and information about hiking trails of varying difficulty.
The park contains the Grutas de García cave system, discovered in 1843, and the Pozo del Gavilán, northern Mexico's only known cenote.
