San Pedro Garza García, Financial district in Monterrey metropolitan area, Mexico
San Pedro Garza García is a city within the Monterrey metropolitan area in Nuevo León state, known for corporate locations and residential neighborhoods. The streets run between office towers and parks, while the foothills of Sierra Madre Oriental rise along the western edge.
The area began as Los Nogales farming settlement in 1596, where families grew corn and wheat. The current name was adopted in 1988, when the place shifted from a rural community to a business center.
The name honors both San Pedro Apostol and Governor Pedro Garza García, though many residents simply call the place San Pedro. The Parroquia San Pedro Apóstol church remains a gathering spot for families who meet on the plaza after Sunday mass.
The municipality sits at roughly 1770 feet (540 meters) above sea level, and several highways lead directly into central Monterrey. Trails in Chipinque ecological park are easy to reach from the area.
The Universidad de Monterrey maintains a campus within the municipality and hosts regular contemporary art exhibitions. Visitors can enter the galleries even outside academic terms.
