Calica, Limestone quarry and industrial port in Cozumel Municipality, Mexico
Calica is a limestone quarry and deep-water port facility along the Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo. The site features extraction operations and specialized harbor infrastructure built directly into the limestone bedrock to handle large cargo vessels.
The facility was developed to supply limestone to regional construction markets and later expanded under corporate management. The site grew to meet increasing demand for building materials across the wider area.
The industrial site neighbors Xcaret, an ecological park that preserves Mayan archaeological structures and presents regional traditions.
The location is difficult to reach by land and functions as an active industrial workplace rather than a visitor destination. Access to the working site is restricted, and the area is not set up for general touring.
The facility exports approximately 12 million tons of limestone annually through its deep-water port to destinations in the United States.
