Wells of Baján, Historic water wells near Acatita de Baján, Castaños, Mexico.
The Wells of Baján consist of multiple water extraction points situated between the cities of Saltillo and Monclova in northern Coahuila.
On March 21, 1811, Mexican independence leaders Miguel Hidalgo, Ignacio Allende, and their followers were captured at these wells by royalist forces.
A nine-meter obelisk marks the location, featuring the national shield and a commemorative plaque honoring the independence movement leaders.
The wells are accessible via a paved road followed by a seven-kilometer dirt path from the main highway connecting Saltillo and Monclova.
The site holds national recognition as an 'Altar de la Patria' due to its connection to the Mexican independence movement.
