Cañón La Huasteca is a canyon featuring towering limestone walls that reach up to 726 meters within Parque La Huasteca municipal reserve. The rock formations create a rugged landscape with numerous fissures and natural formations suitable for climbing and hiking.
The first documented climbing expedition took place in 1954 when Federico Ramírez García reached the summit and named Pico Lico peak. This event marked the beginning of the canyon's recognition as a climbing destination.
Rock climbers have established hundreds of routes throughout this place, making it a center for outdoor climbing in northern Mexico. The canyon walls attract people from across the region who come to test their skills on the rock.
The entrance sits about 20 minutes from downtown Monterrey with free access to the climbing areas and marked hiking trails. Visitors can explore the space at their own pace without restrictions on most routes.
Hurricane Alex in 2010 reshaped the canyon landscape significantly, altering climbing routes and creating new geological formations. The event left visible marks on the rock walls that climbers notice today.
