Francisco I. Madero Monument at Monclova, Bronze monument at Boulevard Harold R. Pape intersection, Monclova, Mexico.
The Francisco I. Madero Monument stands at the intersection of Boulevards Harold R. Pape and Francisco I. Madero in Monclova with a distinctive metallic form. The structure resembles a desert cactus and includes two tunnels beneath it that allow pedestrians and cyclists to pass through safely.
The monument was inaugurated on June 2, 2016, honoring Madero who became the first revolutionary president leading the overthrow of Porfirio Díaz's rule. His presidency marked a turning point in Mexican history and launched the country toward political transformation.
The south face displays Madero's portrait, while the north side features the Mexican national eagle with his words about good government. You can read the carved message and see what values mattered to this political leader.
The monument sits at a central intersection with wide boulevards and is easy to reach during daylight hours. The two tunnels provide safe passage for walkers and cyclists crossing the busy intersection without mixing with traffic.
A time capsule from 2016 rests beneath the structure holding items that captured that moment in time. Local residents humorously compare the structure to a giant cheese grater because of its distinctive angular form.
