Boerne, County seat in Texas Hill Country, United States
Boerne is a county seat in the limestone hills of Texas Hill Country, combining residential areas, parks and nature preserves. Walking trails link the outer neighborhoods to the commercial center that runs along the main street.
German settlers founded the community in 1849 under the name Tusculum and renamed it three years later to honor the writer. The courthouse was built in 1870 and still serves as the administrative center of the county.
The town carries the name of German writer Ludwig Börne, whose critical essays gained recognition across 19th-century Europe. Many buildings downtown still bear German names and reflect the language spoken by early settlers.
The center can be explored on foot, while the surrounding nature preserves have their own parking areas and marked trails. Most facilities open during regular business hours and remain accessible on weekends.
The Cibolo Center for Conservation protects habitats along creek banks and offers environmental education programs year-round. Visitors can observe wildlife on the trails and learn about local ecosystems.
